I was bored watching this. Maybe more bored than the dudes in the cartoon. Questing against boredom does not make an interesting plot, and unless the comedy is well-written the characters become tedious.

I do, however, respect the meticulous and geometric lip-syncing.

Domonization responds:

Sorry that you got bored from watching it, friend. Isn't that ironic? Well, I'm glad that you liked the lip-syncing at least. Thanks for the review.

Warlord of Noodles has become one of my favorite artists and she is a great voice-actress too. Not much to say about this animation other than you accomplished your goals, to practice little movements.

WooleyWorld responds:

I couldn't move on until I heard you say it, Robs.

The saga begins. Stylistically it is good. I like the colors you chose and the character design is funny. It's not too long or short. The music choice is good. Really not too much else to say. PM me sometime and we'll take a piss together. Don't cross the streams.

Brewster responds:

I'd love to take a good piss with a good man

Stylistically excellent, but somewhat wasted by repeated animations, slow transitions, and lack of backgrounds. It's like you made several cool images but ultimately forced them to cover the entirety of the song you chose. Shorten it a bit, or fill out the song with twice as much animation and you'll have something special.

Lol. What a feel good flash animation.

BoobMarley responds:

Lol.

Not like your other stuff. It's good to be experimental and I think, stylistically, it is a success.

But.

It feels like the sort of cartoon that is setting the tone for dozens of more of the same, all detailing your sometimes devastating online critiques/sometimes cyber-bullying. Don't become the next ill will press. It doesn't suit you. Still, it was funny for what it was. You went 3 stars, and you deserve all 3/3 stars.

BoobMarley responds:

lol, stfu rob

The perfect 3.

Good, a little art-schoolish

Its always refreshing to see someone mix non-digital mediums with flash, and the very well designed, pencil-drawn robot looked great against the gray cardboard background. The head-spinning and the missile pack fun elements too.

Still, you can tell just by watching it that it was made for an art class. By that I mean to say that you cared more for the artistic medium than the character or the story: "Okay, we have a robot trying to escape a cardboard box. Oh look he's doing some funny things to try to get out. But why do I care? What's his story?".

Yeah, its unfair of me to expect that sort of thing, but you get where I am coming from right? Still, its worth an 8/10 to see pencil-drawn characters every once in a while.

Ben-the-Jew responds:

That's actually a completely fair observation to make. It really isn't all that entertaining outside of the context of appreciating the visuals now that I think about what you said. I was rushed (I always let deadlines creep up on me) to finish this project and totally let that blind me to some essential story-telling facets. I plum forgot to give the audience a reason to care about the robot and make the universe make sense.

I think maybe I could've reached you with some (or any, really) more set-up. Something like the paper-bot, slightly broken or maybe low on power, rummaging around a junk yard for parts and/or fuel. By chance he unearths the mysterious room. It appearing to consist of much more advanced tech than the junk, he enters hoping it'll provide him with what he seeks. Something like that maybe, haha.

Anyway, thank you for the thoughtful and helpful review. I took a lot away from it!

Art Class

Good work, but it definitely had an art class feel to it -- like you were more interested in the various mediums you used than the concepts portrayed. I was impressed by the water colors. I think they mix well with flash and final cut pro. You should definitely use water colors in some future projects.

aba1 responds:

Thanks and I have to admit the animation was a little off here and there but I had to completely redo a few things and I was on a time limit to begin with so I was rushed from the get go. I think I might try something a little more funny in future project :P

Intricate in design and story

Relying on the many textures and colors to make the otherwise simple character designs was a great move. It makes the animation really pop. The story is exciting because the characters are each different in motivation, if slightly, and the villain is awesome so far. I especially like the voice effects.

Kieran-s responds:

Hey thanks, I agree, GiantJuicyKickballs did a great job in "vampirising" his character.

Accolades

Stick men videos are so overdone, that is difficult for any one to stand out. In this cartoon, however, the three-dimensional environment helps this cartoon stand out.

Good work, but I'd still like to see more. Maybe some plot or some action other than te usual knock-down brawl.

Kwing responds:

Stick figures are great for body language in expression, but for a plotline, it's really better to have some kind of fullbody. This is an RHG, mind you, so while maybe it could have used dialogue, it can't have too much of a plot.
